Borrow a Boat – the UK’s first peer-to-peer boat charter company – has launched a new platform which will bring thousands of boat owners and boating enthusiasts from across the world together.

With up to 90 percent of boats left sitting in docks completely unused, Borrow a Boat aims to connect people who want to get out on the water for less, with boat owners interested in turning their boat into a business which can pay it’s own way.

Billed as "the Airbnb for Boats", Borrow a Boat currently offers boat charterers over 4000 charter options across 40 countries – and they aim to have over 10,000 choices later this year.

Charter options range from small day boats to luxury £1m plus yachts and everything in between available for as little as a few hundred pounds a day to tens of thousands of pounds for week long bookings.

Matt Ovenden, the Founder of Borrow a Boat, said “we are really excited about the launch of the new platform, which is a one stop shop for any one wishing to charter out a boat. Our aim is to make boating accessible for all and dispel the myth that you need to be a celebrity or millionaire to take out a yacht on the high seas”.

Matt continues, “I’ve been sailing my whole life and it’s always amazed me how many incredible boats end up just sitting in docks because their owners don’t have time to sail them; and yet there are thousands of people who happily pay and would love to make use of those boats if only they could. It occurred to us there was a gap in the market for an easy to use platform that would make borrowing a boat easy – which is how we came up with the idea for Borrow a Boat”.
